“乐侃全明星”的成员包括Ashley Bathgate(大提琴)、Robert Black(贝斯)、Vicky Chow(钢琴)、David Cossin(打击乐)、Mark Stewart(电吉他)、Evan Ziporyn(单簧管)。

James Cohan Gallery Shanghai is pleased to host a concert by members of New York’s electric chamber group Bang on a Can All-Stars on Wednesday, October 21st, 7pm.
This will be the Bang on a Can All-Stars’ Shanghai premier which will feature works by some of today’s most innovative American composers and performers. It is also a musical complement to the gallery’s current exhibition “Young Americans “.

About Bang on a Can All-Stars
Formed in 1987 by composers Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe, Bang on a Can plays a vital role in America’s cultural landscape by commissioning, performing, creating, presenting and recording innovative and exciting contemporary music. It has grown from a one-day festival into a renowned and multi-faceted organization.

In 1992, the Bang on a Can All-Stars, a part rock band and part amplified chamber group line-up was assembled to blur the boundaries between classical, jazz, rock and experimental music. The ensemble is completely at home with new music, but is well versed in a variety of musical idioms — to collaborating with Yo-Yo Ma, to touring with Paul Simon and Bob Dylan.

Named Musical America’s Ensemble of the Year in 2005, and heralded as “the country’s most important vehicle for contemporary music” by the San Francisco Chronicle, the group’s celebrated projects and collaborations include their landmark recording of Brian Eno’s ambient classic Music for Airports and live performances with Philip Glass, Terry Riley, Meredith Monk, Don Byron and more. New projects in 2009/2010 include Julia Wolfe’s Steel Hammer, an evening-length staged concert with Trio Mediaeval, Evan Ziporyn’s A House in Bali, a new dance-opera featuring the All-Stars with Balinese Gamelan, commissions from Louis Andriessen, Bill Frisell, Ryuichi Sakamoto. With occasional homages to existing music by living masters, the heart of the repertoire is genre-defying music written specifically for the group. The All-Stars appear regularly in New York at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, among other venues, with recent appearances including Kennedy Center, Washington, DC; Singapore Arts Festival, Vienna Spring Festival, Venice Biennale; Barbican Centre, London; Holland Festival, UCLA, MASS MoCA.

Bang on a Can All-Stars are Ashley Bathgate, cello; Robert Black, bass; Vicky Chow, piano; David Cossin, percussion; Mark Stewart, electric guitar; Evan Ziporyn, clarinets; Artistic Directors Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe.
